FERNLEY, NV - An elderly man is alive after accidentally shooting himself in the face.
The sheriff with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office says a man in his seventies was cleaning his .22 caliber revolver with the muzzle pointed toward his head.
The sheriff says the gun still had one round it when it went off and shot the man in the head near his right eye.
Since the man was wearing glasses at the time, it is believed the lens prevented the bullet from hitting him in the eye, according to the sheriff.
The sheriff says the force of the bullet hitting the lens of the glasses caused internal trauma to the victim's eye.
Although no entrance wound has been found at this time, after the man cleans up at the hospital, authorities will continue their investigation to see if the bullet hit his eye.
