RENO, NV - A Reno man is behind bars, accused of throwing a four month-old puppy from a third floor balcony Thursday night.

Reno police tell KOLO 8 News that 57-year-old John Wayne Ponsock is charged with cruelty to animals and being an intoxicated pedestrian in a roadway. Police say Ponsock was visiting an apartment on Gardella Avenue, over near Parr Blvd. around 8:40 p.m.
That apartment complex is where they say the puppy was thrown from the balcony.

When the puppy's owner found out about it, the owner hit Ponsock, and police were called out.

The puppy was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital, but had to be put down because of severe injuries.

Ponsock was arrested after police found him drunk, and wandering along U.S. 395 between Parr and McCarran Boulevards.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident, to call them, or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
