Local Woman Collects Care Baskets for Wounded Marines

SPARKS, Nev.. While the conditions of the wounded Marines at Renown remains unknown, one local woman is making sure they spend the rest of their time at the hospital in comfort.

Diane Navas, the 'Loyal Knight' of the Sparks Elks Lodge #2397 spent the better part of Saturday collecting donations for care baskets to be sent to the Marines.

Navas says the community was very generous; donating items like homemade cookies and books, as well as gift cards and over $700 which she will distribute to the men.

"When you get the feeling that you need to do something for somebody in your community, you need to do it," Navas said. "The people in Hawthorne did a lot for the people that were there that passed away, but I wanted to do something for the people who were here, wounded but still away from home."

Navas dropped the baskets off at Renown Saturday night, but she said if anyone wanted to help the Marines, they can send donations to the Sparks Elks Lodge #2397 c/o The Loyal Knight.

The Lodge is located at 517 S Rock Blvd. Sparks, NV 89431.
