RENO, NV - Local law enforcement agencies will be joining forces during the Fourth of July.
The Fourth of July remains one of the deadliest holidays on our nation’s roadways, which is why law enforcement officers are working together for the Joining Forces campaign. There will be extra officers looking for impaired drivers from now until July 6.
According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, nearly one-third of fatal crashes in Nevada involve impaired drivers. In 2013, 132 motorists were killed in crashes in Nevada. During that same time period, 53 Nevada motorcyclists died in crashes, an increase of 39 percent over 2012.
Driving while drunk could cause drivers and motorcycle riders to drift during a turn, inappropriate or unusual behavior and weaving. Law enforcement officers encourage motorists to call 911 if they witness drivers and riders that may be impaired.
