RENO, NV - "Let's Move Outside!" is a national campaign educating children and families about the outdoors, in an effort to end childhood obesity.
200 students from Washoe and Lyon County will participate in the event Tuesday.
Researchers at Duke University predict by 2030, 11 percent of people will be severely obese which is about a hundred pounds or more overweight. That percentage is double what it is now.
But what's even more shocking: the prediction that by 2030, 42 percent of Americans will be overweight.
Right now the Centers for Disease Controls says about one third of americans are obese. About 17 percent of children are obese.
At Tuesday's event, The Bureau of Land Management and the Nature Conservancy will teach about 200 students about the outdoors from 10 a.m. this morning to 1 p.m.
The event also teaches parents about the outdoors and learn about public lands.
First Lady Michelle Obama launched this campaign to end childhood obesity in a generation.
