Leave Being Worked Out for Assemblyman Brooks

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A lawyer for Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks says he hopes to have a signed agreement soon setting terms for the troubled lawmaker's leave of absence from the state Legislature.

Mitchell Posin would not confirm media reports that Brooks has agreed to take up to 60 days.

Brooks, a North Las Vegas Democrat, was sworn in Monday to a second term. His swearing came as he faces an allegation of threatening the Assembly speaker last month and a subsequent hospitalization for a mental evaluation.

Brooks was not in a committee hearing Tuesday, though he was in his office around midday.

A spokesman for the Assembly Democratic Caucus says no agreement had been signed though details were still being worked out.
