RENO, Nev. (AP) - A lawsuit seeking millions of dollars in damages for thousands of employees at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno claims its parent company intentionally deprived workers of wages and overtime they were entitled to by repeatedly requiring them to work off the clock.
U.S. District Judge Larry R. Hicks granted class-action status last week to the lawsuit a Reno-based law firm filed on behalf of as many as 4,700 employees over the past two years.
The suit says employees were required to count their cash drawers, complete paperwork and attend mandatory training sessions without getting paid.
It estimates they were denied compensation they were entitled to averaging one hour for every day they worked. Their lawyers estimate it could total as much as $50 million in lost wages.
