LAS VEGAS (AP) - A judge in Las Vegas will hear a request to extend a protective order for the wife of a troubled Nevada state lawmaker.
Assemblyman Steven Brooks' lawyer, Mitchell Posin, says Brooks won't have to be in Clark County Family Court for the 1 p.m. Tuesday hearing.
The proceeding is one of several faced by the Democrat from North Las Vegas within the last month.
Brooks has been arrested twice, given a psychiatric evaluation, banned from meetings with party colleagues in the Assembly and banished from the Nevada Legislature building.
Last Friday, Brooks was kicked out of a Reno casino restaurant, but Posin says he doesn't think any criminal charges resulted from that encounter.
An Assembly committee will consider whether to expel Brooks and prevent him from serving his elected office.
