Kings Assume Control of Reno Bighorns

RENO - The Sacramento Kings are signing a two-year agreement to run the basketball operations of the Reno Bighorns.

The Kings ownership will have total control of operations, choosing the coaching staff, players and the type of offensive and defensive system the team will run in Reno.

It in essence makes the Bighorns the official minor league team of the Kings. Reno will not longer be affiliated with the Utah Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies.

New Kings owner Vivek Ranadive wanted to buy the Bighorns outright. But Herb Santos Jr. wanted to retain the team, reaching a "hybrid partnership" with Sacramento.

Santos confirmed the move to KOLO-8 tonight. He says Jason Glover will remain as the Bighorns head coach this season. Glover was hired earlier this month after spending four of the last five years as an assistant on the staff.

An official announcement will be made tomorrow afternoon at a press conference in Reno.
