SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors in Orange County have charged a man with kidnapping his former girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter a decade ago and repeatedly sexually assaulting her.
Isidro Medrano Garcia was charged Thursday with five felony counts, including rape and kidnapping to commit a sexual offense.
He was set to be arraigned Thursday morning.
The woman, now 25, came forward this week and told police that Garcia had abducted her and then through physical, mental and sexual abuse kept her from reuniting with her family since her 2004 disappearance.
Police say Garcia forced the woman to marry in 2007 and fathered a daughter with her in 2012.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Police say a California woman kidnapped 10 years ago recently reunited with her mother, who convinced her to go to authorities after telling her she tried to find her.
Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said Thursday that the woman got in touch with her mother after finding her sister on Facebook to wish her a happy birthday.
Police say the alleged kidnapper, Isidro Garcia, had told the victim that her mother had given up looking for her. The two had subsequently been married and had a daughter.
Bertagna says the mother showed the daughter news articles written at the time of her disappearance to prove that she had gone to the police and filed a missing persons report.
BELL GARDENS, Calif. (AP) - Neighbors are expressing disbelief over the news that a Southern California man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl and holding her captive for a decade.
Police say 41-year-old Isidro Garcia forced the victim into marriage, fathered a child with her and used physical and emotional abuse to prevent her from fleeing.
But the pair's neighbors in Bell Gardens say the man they knew as Tomas Madrano was a devoted family man who treated his wife "like a queen" and doted on their young daughter.
They said the family was known in the community because they worked and worshipped near their home, and threw elaborate parties.
Neighbor Rita Salazar says she never saw any signs of trouble, and she is astounded the victim "waited so long to say something."
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A woman who was 15 when she disappeared 10 years ago in California told police that she was forced to marry her captor and they had a child together.
The Santa Ana Police Department said Wednesday that they booked her captor, 41-year-old Isidro Garcia, on suspicion of kidnapping for rape, lewd acts with a minor and false imprisonment.
Police say Garcia was dating her mother and lived with the family in 2004 when the girl was 15.
Police say that Garcia drugged the girl and drove her to a house in Compton where he locked her in a garage.
Authorities say he used physical and emotional abuse to prevent her from fleeing. The now 25-year-old woman says Garcia forced her into marriage in 2007 and they had a child in 2012.
She came forward to police after finding her sister on Facebook.
