DETROIT (AP) - Kia is recalling more than 58,000 Spectra compact cars in cold-weather states because the gas tanks can drop to the ground and cause a fire.
A government safety agency says the recall affects Spectra LD models from the 2004 to 2007 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says on its website that straps holding up the gas tank can rust and the tank can fall to the ground. The problem could cause a gas leak and fire.
Dealers will replace the straps with zinc-coated parts at no cost to owners.
The recall affects cars in 20 cold-weather states and Washington, D.C., where salt is used to clear roads of ice and snow.
