RENO, NV - KOLO 8 News Now has hired a new chief meteorologist to replace the departing Chris Larson, who is leaving Reno after this week to be part of his family's business in North Carolina.

Jeff Thompson is the new chief weatherman, joining KOLO from crosstown KTVN. He starts full-time on-air Monday, November 25.

Thompson says he loves the Reno area and is excited to be able to broadcast forecasts five days a week, plus work with kolotv.com and KOLO's weather Facebook page.

KOLO News Director Jennifer Hardy says, "We are very excited to have Jeff Thompson as the Chief Meteorologist at KOLO 8. Jeff brings experience and enthusiasm that will help elevate our First Alert brand and make KOLO the station to turn to during severe weather."

"Jeff brings a knowledge of this area combined with expertise in meteorology that will help deliver the best weather content to Northern Nevada viewers," Hardy says.

Thompson will spearhead a team that includes Dick Stoddard on weekends and Lindsey Matherly weekday mornings.

Chris Larson has been at KOLO since 2003.

Hardy says, "We appreciate the decade of work Chris Larson has given to KOLO 8 and the people of this area. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
