RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Reno judge is scheduled to resume a hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday into the health risks of the pregnancy of a mentally impaired 32-year-old woman.
The Nevada Supreme Court took no action Monday to halt the hearings held by Washoe County District Judge Egan Walker.
The woman's parental guardians asked the court Friday to stop the hearings, saying Walker lacks the authority to terminate the pregnancy of their daughter, who has the mental capacity of a 6-year-old.
They want the baby carried to term in line with their Catholic religious beliefs.
But Walker asked the court Monday to let him proceed hearing medical evidence to determine if the woman should have an abortion.
The woman was living in a Reno group home when she became pregnant 13 weeks ago.
