Jacobs Belts Two HR's, Aces Win Opener Over Bees

Reno, Nev.— Mike Jacobs’ big night propelled the Reno Aces to a 6-1 victory over the Salt lake Bees on a chilly Thursday Night at Aces Ballpark.

Jacobs went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs to lead the Aces’ offense. Jacobs became Reno’s third player to record a multi-home run game this season, joining Nick Evans and Roger Kieschnick, who was called up to the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier in the day.

Salt Lake opened the game with a bang, when leadoff hitter Taylor Lindsey took Randy Wolf deep to start the game. It was the only offense the Bees would muster, however, as Wolf bounced back to record his second-consecutive win. Wolf went six innings and allowed just the one run on five hits.

Reno evened the game in the second inning, when Evans doubled to right and advanced to third on a Jacobs single. He scored during the next at-bat when Andy Marte grounded into a double play.

In the third frame, the Aces blew the game open, thanks to four consecutive hits and back-to-back home runs by Evans and Jacobs. Ender Inciarte singled to lead off the inning, and scored two batters later when Alfredo Marte doubled and left fielder Efren Navarro misplayed the ball.

Evans and Jacobs followed with back-to-back homers, the third time this season Reno has accomplished the feat. The last time the Aces hit back-to-back home runs three times in a month was in August of 2011.

Jacobs’ fifth-inning homer to center field closed out the scoring, giving the Aces their second win in a row. They’re one game over .500 at 11-10.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow in the second game of the four-game set. RHP Charles Brewer (2-2, 3.22) gets the nod for Reno, looking for its second three-game win streak in a week. LHP Wade LeBlanc (1-1, 5.40) will start for Salt Lake.
