SPARKS, Nev. – Sparks Police are investigating the death of a 5-month-old infant.
Police tell KOLO 8 News Now it started on March 21 at an apartment complex at 1877 El Rancho Boulevard when they were called to a report of an infant not breathing.
The child was unresponsive, but had no obvious signs of trauma. The infant was taken to Renown for treatment. Medical examiners say the infant had injuries consistent with child abuse, including brain hemorrhaging and fractured ribs. The infant died on March 23.
Sparks police say their investigation indicated the child’s father, Roberto Diaz-Tenorio, had been taking care of the son when the child lost consciousness. The father said it happened after he changed the infant’s diaper.
According to investigators, there was enough evidence to charge Diaz-Tenorio with child abuse. The charge has been amended to Open Murder since the child passed away.
