LASSEN COUNTY, CA - Human remains have been discovered in the southern area of Lassen County near Doyle, according to an official with the Lassen County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say on Sunday, October 28, 2013, two people hunting in the Doyle area discovered what they believed to be a skull. Deputies and investigators from the Lassen County Sheriff's Office responded to the area.

The skull, in addition to several other bones were found, were determined to be human, according to an official with the Lassen County Sheriff's Office.

In the approximate area where the bones were found, a pair of pants were found as well, according to an official with the Lassen County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say a preliminary investigation shows the bones span a large area.

After investigating the evidence collected, officials say they're investigating the possibility of the remains being that of Edgardo Carrera.

Carrera is a 57-year-old male who was reported missing to the Lassen County Sheriff's Office in September 2012, according to an official with the Lassen County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say there is no forensic evidence that links the remains to Carrera, however officials are saying evidence found at the scene is leading to the possibility that the remains are that of Carrera's.
