More than 120 veterans showed up for the Hiring Our Heroes Hiring Fair that took place Thursday morning.
It was held from 10am until 1pm at the American Legion Post 30 in Sparks. Twenty-two employers were on hand, looking for workers.
Since its launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has held more than 370 hiring fairs nationwide, helping 14,000 veterans and military spouses find employment.
"We have such a high rate of unemployed vets and we're looking to bring that rate down," says Virginia Carpenter, of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She says the jobless rate for veterans is now around 12-percent and the age group most affected is 18-24 year olds, just returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
These Hiring Our Heroes job fairs take place periodically in Northern Nevada. The next one will be held on January 16th in Fallon.
