RENO, NV - One person is dead after a helicopter crash at the Reno-Stead Airport.
The Reno Fire Department tells KOLO 8 News Now the helicopter was a single-seat helicopter with a blue frame.
The accident happened at 12:09 p.m. Sunday, killing 46-year-old Michael Seeliger.
A pilot from a second helicopter lost contact with a kit helicopter. The pilot began to search for the missing helicopter and discovered the wreckage.
Authorities say the kit helicopter is one that can be made at home.
"It's something you can build right here at the airport and hanger," says Brian Kulpin, spokesman for Reno-Tahoe International Airport. "The FAA comes out and certifies the aircraft for flight and that's what occurred with this helicopter about a week ago so not a lot of flight time in this aircraft."
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct the investigation to determine the cause.
