Saturday, March 29 at 5 PM, the portion of Greg Street between Interstate 80 and Larkin Circle will reopen with limited one lane capacity (southbound traffic only).
Crews have worked around the clock to expedite the reopening of this arterial roadway which provides primary access to numerous businesses in the area.
SPARKS -- A portion of Greg Street is slated to close for a week beginning on Sunday. Greg Street from I-80 to Larkin Circle will close, according to the City of Sparks.
The closure is port of a drainage project designed to divert storm drain water away from an industrial area of Sparks. The area has experienced floods in the past, and a city spokesperson said the project will reduce flood water by one foot.
Currently, only one southbound lane is open in the construction area.
The city is urging people to use I-80 as an alternative.
The first two phases of the project will cost about $13 million, according to Sparks spokesperson Adam Mayberry. Mayberry said the funds come from a fee on sewer bills and the Truckee River Flood Management Authority.
Traffic control will continue until the project is completed, which is slated for May.
