Reno, NV - Governor Brian Sandoval wants the state to create 50,000 jobs by the end of 2014. He announced the challenge Tuesday morning when he unveiled the State Economic Development Plan at the University of Nevada.

"This Moving Nevada Forward is a blueprint for building a vibrant, sustainable economy for all Nevadans," said Governor Brian Sandoval, R-Nevada, as he held up a booklet that outlined the state's Economic Development Plan.

Governor Sandoval unveiled the three-year plan at the University of Nevada on Tuesday morning. He was there to talk about the new strategy to create thousands of jobs in the state.

"There's never been an effort like this in the history of Nevada," said Governor Sandoval. "We need to be competitive across the country, this plan will accomplish that."

This plan focuses on making Nevada more competitive by focusing on education and getting the government involved in marketing Nevada's business climate. Governor Sandoval pointed out a new law that's helping his office do this.

"The Legislature passed a measure that placed responsibility for economic development within the Governor's Office, emphasizing the importance of that vital role. We created the $10 million catalyst fund which will be used to help seed the development and expansion of businesses within Nevada," said Governor Sandoval.

He stressed how important it is to develop new business here and grow existing ones, since those account for more than 90-percent of our jobs.

And to make his point, Governor Sandoval then toured the Pacific Cheese plant in South Reno. It's a company that has tripled its work force in the last four years.

"The taxes here are very favorable," said Steve Gaddis, President and CEO of Pacific Cheese. "And it allows us to reinvest a lot of the money we would have paid in other states back to our back into our business for job creation and growth and innovation."

Later in the morning, the governor visited the first-grade class at Pleasant Valley Elementary. He asked the kids what they want to be when they grow up.

"A scientist!" said one little boy.

Governor Sandoval told them it could be possible. He said the economic plan had children like them in mind.

"When they graduate from high school in 2023; we want there to be a vibrant economy that provides them with opportunities both in a career or for college. That's what this plan is all about," he said.
