Governor Signs Washoe Schools Tax Bill

CARSON CITY, NV - Governor Sandoval has signed a bill allowing the Washoe County Commission to increase sales and property taxes to fund repairs to Washoe schools.

Assembly Bill 46 was signed into law Tuesday. Now, the commission will schedule public hearings to get comments on how necessary taxes would be and how taxpayers would be affected.

The goal is to raise $500M over ten years via a quarter-percent sales tax increase and new five-cent property tax levy.

Four of the five Washoe County commissioners need to approve the taxes for them to take effect.
