CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - President Barack Obama's support of gay
marriage will draw more Nevada voters to the polls come November, but whether it sways the final presidential tally in a state where the economy is foremost on voters' minds is debatable.
Democrats hail the president's stance and say it will energize a political base to help spur an Obama victory over presumptive
Republican nominee Mitt Romney in this important swing state.
Republicans downplay the gay marriage issue and accuse the president of using it to deflect attention from his economic policies. They also say the president's position will motivate people to vote.
Nevada voters gave final approval in 2002 to a constitutional
amendment that defines marriage as being between a man and woman.
That law is now being challenged in court.
