Sparks, NV - On July 19th, police were called to Van Meter Park, on a report of a gang related fight.

During the investigation officers learned that the victim, a 22-year-old Spark resident was at Van Meter Park with 2 friends when they were approached by three Latino males.

The males questioned the victim and his friends regarding gang affiliation. The victim denied any gang affiliation and the males left.

Moments later, the Latino males returned with an additional person. This time, the suspects produced a handgun and demanded valuables from the victim and his friends. When the victim refused to empty his pockets, the suspects began to beat him and strike him in the face with the handgun. The suspects then fled the area prior to police arrival.

The victim was transported by Remsa to Renown Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Because of the gang affiliation of the suspects, the Regional Gang Unit took lead in the investigation. The RGU was able to identify one of the suspects, Jaime Garcia, an 18-year-old Sparks resident.

Garcia was subsequently arrested for Armed Robbery and BDW with gang enhancement.

The Sparks Police Department along with the Regional Gang Unit are continuing to investigate the case.
