RENO, Nev. (AP) - An 18-year-old Reno man has been sentenced to life in prison for a gang-motivated killing and robbery southeast of downtown.

Cesar Contreras-Armas pleaded guilty in April to robbery and second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the stabbing of 20-year-old Andrew Amezcua in October.

Police say the victim and his girlfriend were walking on Yori Avenue when Contreras-Armas approached and asked if he was in a gang. A fight ensued and Amezcua was stabbed four times, including once in the heart.

After stabbing her boyfriend, police say Contreras-Armas then demanded money from the girl.

Prosecutors say Contreras-Armas, a member of the Sureno gang, was on juvenile parole at the time.

Washoe District Judge David Hardy says he'll have to serve 19 years before he's considered for parole.
