CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is hoping for a four-peat.
Furlong filed for re-election Tuesday, seeking a fourth, four-year term in office.
He was first elected in 2002 and was the capital city's top law enforcement officer during the recession that brought deep budget cuts.
He says in the year following the deepest cuts, the department was able to improve response times without eliminating services.
Furlong says Carson City's crime index in 2013 fell to its lowest level since 1997.
Candidates for public office have until March 14 to file for this year's election.
