RENO, NV - Now is your chance to help provide polio vaccinations for children in need.

The Rotaract Club of Reno is hosting its 5th annual Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run & Walk this Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.

An official with the Rotaract Club of Reno says there will be a 10K run and a 5K run or walk. Sign-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and the run begins at 9:00 a.m.

The pre-registration price for the event is $25 for the 5K and $35 for the 10K. The official says pre-registration ends April 4, 2014.

The registration price is $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K.

She says 100 percent of the proceeds from the Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run & Walk will go to the Rotary Foundation's Polio Plus Fund.

The Polio Plus Fund is dedicated to immunizing children worldwide and thus help provide an end to this disease, according to the official.

She says over the past four years, $17,000 has been raised from this run. The goal is to increase that number substantially this year.

The fundraiser is called the Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run & Walk because every time a Rotary volunteer gives a child a polio vaccine, the child's pinkie is colored purple, according to the official.
