SPARKS, Nev. – A Sparks man is under arrest and facing Food Stamp violations.
Police say Lokman Houssain Babu would buy EBT cards from people at an exchange rate of fifty cents on the dollar. After that, investigators believe Babu would then broker the cards out to other people in the community or use them at full face value for the purchase of goods.
The exchange of food stamp benefits for cash is a violation of Federal and State laws.
Investigators searched Discount Center Liquor and Convenience Store at 2250 Oddie Boulevard as well as Babu’s vehicle and business bank account. It’s believed the fraud started in July 2012.
