First Mosquito Abatement Treatment Starts Tomorrow

RENO, Nev – Our mild winter is causing a pesky problem. Mosquitoes are biting earlier this year and to help protect us, the Washoe County Health District will have its first aerial mosquito treatment tomorrow. This will be applied to Rosewood Lakes, Red Hawk, and the Butler Ranch to prevent the emergence of disease carrying mosquitoes.

The mosquito control product being used is pellets that disrupt the normal growth pattern of immature mosquitoes in water and prevents them from becoming biting adults. Altosid naturally degrades in the environment and will not adversely affects humans, fish, waterfowl or beneficial insects and can be used in sensitive areas. This larvaciding activity reduces the need for fogging for adult mosquitoes.

If you are outdoors and mosquitoes are biting, wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts and apply insect repellent such as DEET, Picaridn, oil of lemon eucalyptus or other natural products.
