Europe's highest active volcano is erupting this morning. It is spewing a cloud of hot ash high into the air over the island of Sicily. Eruptions on Mt. Etna can sometimes last for days. It has already forced the closure of the island's airport. The volcano rumbled back to life Wednesday night shooting columns of fire and ash more than 16,000ft in the air.
Thousands of people in Rio de Janeiro were evacuated yesterday when a river dike burst, causing massive flooding. At least eight people were killed in the rushing waters which washed out roads and caused mudslides. A state of emergency has been declared in more than 70 towns located along the river.
