RENO, NV - The former wife of Reno businessman Mike Cross, wanted for his 2008 murder, has been arrested in Peru.
Nazira Cross had been sought since fleeing the country months after Cross' body was found buried on property he owned near Lovelock in July of 2008.
A native of Costa Rica with family in Peru, she had apparently been living there under an assumed name.
Cross was last seen alive at a cabin he owned near Frenchman's Reservoir. The two had been divorced the previous year.
His ex-wife told neighbors he was ill and she was taking him to a hospital in Reno.
Later that day friends in Reno contacted police after what they described as suspicious conversations with her. According to authorities, she gave several different accounts of his whereabouts before finally admitting he had died and she had buried him.
For weeks, then months, the investigation seemed stalled on the question of cause of death and jurisdiction.
Authorities in two states and three counties were involved in the investigation.
Toxicology tests proved inconclusive, but eventually she was charged with murder by Plumas County, California.
By then, although her passport had been taken, she had apparently fled the country.
Peru has an extradition treaty with the U-S, but it's not known when she will be returned here.
