ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Elko County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that sent a 4-year-old Spring Creek girl to the hospital.

Sheriff Jim Pitts says emergency personnel took the girl to the hospital on Wednesday after she was shot in the leg by a family member. He says the bullet hit her in the upper thigh and the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

Detectives have not disclosed yet whether the shooting was an accidental discharge of a weapon.

The initial dispatch communication indicated that the female family member who reported the incident was uncooperative. The newspaper says she hung up twice on the 911 calls and was unable to provide information about the condition of the child.

No other information has been released.
