BATTLE MOUNTAIN, NV - An elderly man is dead after he was struck and killed by a car on State Route 304 in Battle Mountain.
According to an NHP official, NHP Troopers responded to State Route 304 on January 26, 2014 around 5:50 p.m. for an auto-pedestrian accident.
The official says Fred Mendenhall, 84, was walking EB on the EB right shoulder of State Route 304 near Forest Street.
The official says Mendenhall began to cross the highway when he entered the EB travel lane and was hit by a Toyota passenger car traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the Toyota is Marvin Thomas, 77, according to the official.
Mendenhall was transported to the Battle Mountain Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officials say he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
