Reno, NV – The RTC will join transit agencies across the nation in the 8th Annual Dump the Pump Day in Washoe County on Thursday, June 20th offering free rides on RTC RIDE transit services.
The national event, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), encourages people to ride public transportation, instead of driving a car, to save money and help the environment. RTC is offering free rides, all day long, on public transportation.
This is an opportunity for the public to try transit free, perhaps for the first time, to help their pocketbook by saving money at the fuel pump and help the environment to preserve the quality of life we enjoy in the Truckee Meadows.
According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals can save an average $816 a month, up to $9,700 annually by riding public transportation.
“Public transportation not only benefits users economically, it is a proven benefit to the environment, our quality of life and a vital component of our community’s economic development,” said David Jickling, RTC director of public transportation and operations. A record ridership day was established with more than 32,400 passenger trips taken during the 2012 Dump the Pump Day event.
RTC SMART TRIPS is offering incentives to the public to participate in Dump the Pump Day on June 20th and take a ‘green trip’ such as transit, carpooling, walking or bicycling.
To be eligible for prizes, visit www.rtcwashoe.greenride.com and record your green trips between June 20th and July 31st. Every trip recorded during this time increases chances of winning a prize.
