Mom Arrested in Parental Abduction Case; Children Safe

MINDEN, NV - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is confirming the arrest of a woman who had been sought for the parental abduction of two children.

Detectives say 44-year-old Kathryn Ann Moore of Wellington was scheduled to appear in District Court in November 2013 for the scheduled child exchange of 5-year-old Patricia Brite Read and 2-year-old William Jesse Moore, to their father Richard Read of Gardnerville, who has joint custody of the children. Kathryn did not appear in court, launching a search for her and the children.

On December 11, 2013, a nationwide felony warrant of arrest for Child Concealment was issued for Moore and the children were entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as missing.

Moore was arrested the afternoon of Monday, January 6, 2014 in Colville, Washington at a family's home. The plan is to extradite her back to Nevada; the children will be returned to their father.

Douglas County says the arrest of Moore was made possible by a joint investigation between the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Offices in Reno and the states of Oklahoma and Washington.
