Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigated in Silver Springs

SILVER SPRINGS, NV - A Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy has been placed on routine paid administrative leave, while a shooting investigation is underway.

Investigators say the incident happened Tuesday in the 3700 block of Cypress Street in Silver Springs.

The deputy was called out to respond to a battery. As the deputy spoke with the suspect, the suspect wouldn't listen to commands from the deputy. The suspect attacked the deputy and tried to run away. A taser was deployed, but was ineffective. The suspect then pulled out a gun. One shot was fired during the incident, but it's unclear who fired the shot.

The suspect was identified as 32 year old Florencio Britoa, a Silver Springs resident. He was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail on the following charges: Battery on a Peace Officer, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest.

His bail was set at $ 11,140.00.

This incident is still under investigation and Nevada Division of Investigation is taking the lead in the investigation.

As per Lyon County Sheriff's Office policy, a concurrent internal administrative investigation is being conducted as well.
