DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - The Douglas County Sheriff's office has identified human skeletal remains found near Spooner Lake.

The remains were found by an inmate work crew clearing brush June 23, 2014. It's unclear how long they had been in the area, but they had been there long enough to decompose. A handgun was found with the remains.

Deputies transported the remains to the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office for cause of death and Identification. Animals had gotten to the body, requiring identification of the remains by DNA analysis and comparison to family members.

Detectives say 32-year-old Ryan Osburn, a professional gambler from Reno, had shot himself.

The remains were found about 300 yards to the north of Highway 50 near the top of Spooner Summit, between the Tahoe Rim trail and Kings Canyon Road, in a remote wooded area.
