Death Penalty Looms After Mother Allegedly Kills Daughters

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A mother has been charged with stabbing to death her three young daughters, whose bloody bodies were found on a bed at her Southern California home.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say 30-year-old Carol Coronado was charged Friday with three counts of murder and with a count of attempted murder for allegedly trying to kill her mother.

The charges carry special allegations that make her eligible for the death penalty but prosecutors haven't decided yet whether to seek it.

Coronado has been hospitalized with self-inflicted wounds since Tuesday when sheriff's deputies were sent to a home at an unincorporated area near Torrance.

Their grandmother discovered the bodies of the three girls, ages 2, 16 months and 2 months.

There's no word on a motive for the killings.
