MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - Douglas County sheriff's investigators believe a Minden's man's deadly fall from the top of Cave Rock on Lake Tahoe's east shore was accidental.
Toxicology reports are pending for 61-year-old Leroy Rupert, who died of blunt force trauma after landing on rocks below the prominent geological formation on March 22.
Gardnerville's Record Courier reports a friend who was on top of Cave Rock with Rupert called 911 for assistance to get Rupert down.
Sheriff's spokesman Pat Brooks says Rupert had been described as shaky and was gone by the time his friend returned.
U.S. 50 runs through the big rock, which was a popular site for rock climbing until the U.S. Forest Service banned the activity.
Cave Rock is considered sacred by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.
