Dead Spanish Springs Man Identified; Person of Interest Held

SPANISH SPRINGS, NV - A man found dead in the backyard of his Spanish Springs home Tuesday night has been identified. Washoe County Sheriff's Office says 47-year old Ryan Petty was found shot dead on Mia Drive. Detectives have interviewed a person of interest who is in custody right now in Douglas County on an outstanding warrant from Churchill County.

There were plenty of lights a law enforcement Tuesday night in Spanish Springs.

A man now identified as 47-year old Ryan Petty was found dead by investigators in the back yard, the coroner says he died from a gunshot wound.

They were alerted to this home after a call to Fallon Police saying they they'd find a dead man on Mia Drive, and according to investigators the dead man's roommate Billey Stanberry was also mentioned in that telephone call.

“His name became aware to us as someone who had lived with the deceased at the Mia address. The neighbors on Mia report that the red van is normally there. The van is owned by our deceased Mr. Petty and then the next thing we find is the van abandoned at the Smith's parking lot in Gardnerville,” says Sargent Tom Green with Washoe County Detectives' Divison.

Douglas County would eventually find the red Dodge Caravan at the Smiths in Gardnerville, it has since been sealed and will be processed by Washoe County Detectives.

Douglas County also arrested 48 year old Stanberry for an outstanding warrant out of Churchill County which stems from a February incident in Fallon.

Stanberry is wanted there for Assault with a Deadly weapon, burglary, robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and pointing a firearm at a person.

“We conducted an interview with him regarding questions we have about our homicide,” says Sargent Green.

Meantime Sargent Green says he is asking for the public's help, if anyone saw the van at Smith's in Gardnerville in late hours of Sunday on the 10th to the early hours of Monday on the 11th.

Of particular interest a gas powered scooter which could have been used by the person that abandoned Ryan's van to get away from Smith's parking lot.
