Controlled Burn Set for South Reno Thursday

RENO, NV - In conjunction with the city of Reno and Nevada Department of Transportation, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District is planning a small prescribed fire operation Thursday, April 17 between 9 and 11AM.

Weather conditions permitting, the controlled burn will occur in south Reno near the State Route 431 (Mount Rose Highway) I-580 southbound off-ramp. The burn is being conducted in the Steamboat Agriculture ditch to remove the accumulation of tumbleweeds, reduce hazardous fuels and prevent water flow back up.

There will be visible smoke in the area, but due to the short duration of the burn, impacts to the public and roadways are expected to be minimal, according to a city spokesperson.
