SPARKS, NV - A competency hearing has been set for July 30 in Washoe District Court for the man charged with killing a squatter and hurting another. That is the result of a status hearing Tuesday in Sparks Justice Court.

73-year-old Wayne Burgarello is still in the Washoe County Jail, with bail set at $2 million.

Burgarello told police he acted in self-defense February 13 when he killed a man and shot a woman he found in a vacant duplex he owns in Sparks. He's charged with murder and attempted murder.
