Reno, NV- In April 2011 New2U Computers and partners from all over the community, joined together in a Community e-Waste Collection Event. They collected nearly 250,000 pounds of e-Waste filling 20 semi-truck loads in five hours. All donations were made by residents of the Truckee Meadows.

“According to the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Litter Index, the majority of what we find at illegal dump sites are electronic waste and this community event helps to give residents an opportunity to properly dispose their e-Waste and keep our open spaces clean,” says Robin Krueger, Program Manager of New2U Computers. “In addition, items that can re-used are recycled back into the community through the New2U Computers program.”

Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 9am to 2pm at the old Park Lane Mall property, New2U Computers, in partnership with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful will bring you the opportunity, once again, to clean out your garage, attic, office and kids room to properly dispose of unwanted electronic waste. This is also a rare opportunity to responsibly and inexpensively dispose of TV’s. In addition computer related electronics and all metals will be accepted.
(*For a list of acceptable items go to www.new2ucomputers.com). Computer related electronics that can be reused will be recycled back into the community through the New2U Computer store and given to local people with disabilities at no cost.

Items that cannot be reused will be recycled properly through our community partner, Sims Recycling Solutions and Sims Metals Management. Sponsors for the event include Disability Resources, The City of Reno, Washoe County, Whole Foods Market, Reno News & Review, Lotus Radio Corp, and Castaway Trash Hauling.

The charge to recycle is $10 per vehicle in advance (limit two TV’s per vehicle) or $20 the day of the event (cash only). Vouchers can be purchased in advance at New2U Computers and Whole Foods
Market. All donations made from each vehicle are included in the cost of the voucher. The fees obtained will cover the cost of proper electronic recycling. All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be provided. New2U Computers and Sims Recycling Solutions follows Department of Defense regulations and will provide a certificate of data destruction upon request.

The event is open to residents only. Businesses can arrange for pick-up directly through New2U Computers.

150 volunteers are needed to help with the event.
