Carson City Sheriff's Deputies Warn of Imposter

CARSON CITY, NEV--The Carson City Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a man posing as a lieutenant who is telling them that they will go to jail unless they pay for traffic tickets.

Deputes say the man identifies himself as "Lt. Steven Mills" or "Neils." He claims to be with the Carson City Sheriff's Office or the Ormsby County Sheriff's Office.

The 'Lieutenant' calls residents, telling them they have bench warrants due to unpaid speeding tickets.

Those 'tickets' were captured by a traffic camera, the impostor claims.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of this scam thus far. In one case, a victim was taken for $500.

The sheriff's office does not use traffic cameras and the sheriff's office does not make phone calls to individuals to collect money for traffic warrants.

The Sheriff's Office says if you think you may have been the victim, or approached by the same person, you are asked to call them at (775) 887-2011.
