Reno, NV - If you've ever needed something, but not been able to afford it, you may want to give bartering a try.

A local company, ITEX, is helping their clients trade their time and services. Their slogan is "The Cashless Marketplace." If you have goods or services, you can use this company to barter those for something else you want or need.

It's a way of making and spending money with what you can do, and what you have.

"People still want to spend cash, and they don't have the cash," said Linda Rubendall, who works at ITEX in Nevada on Vesta Street. "So, if they take the barter dollar, they're able to spend the barter dollar for things maybe they wouldn't be able to have."

If you walk into our local ITEX branch in Reno, you will see dozens of brochures and business cards on the shelves. They belong to some of ITEX's clients, whose services are available for barter.

ITEX works to bring people and businesses together to barter.

"If you're a dentist, and you have excess time during the week, you might as well spend them taking in barter or trade dollars that you can then turn around and spend on things, like vacations for your family, or office cleaning, or window cleaning, or an attorney, or travel," said Rubendall.

ITEX works on a points system, where each point is worth one dollar.

Their network includes more than 300 clients in Northern Nevada, and more than 24,000 clients nationwide.

It costs $20 a month to be part of the network, and they also charge a percentage of each bartering transaction they facilitate.

The Reno branch is located at 136 Vesta Street in Reno. For more information, you can call ITEX's offices at 775-829-2990.

Justin is obviously one (or more) of several things: 1. Extremely young 2. Extremely immature 3. Not a business owner. Smart business owners trade on their own. By being an ITEX Member you have many more trading opportinities & you aren't locked into trading with someone who may not have what you want or need. If you're a business owner in or near Reno, call Linda today if you want or need more business. You will be happy you did. Linda has owned the local ITEX Office for many, many years & is well known in the community.

Barter isn't new and ITEX has been around for 29 years. Small business owners that are open to driving new business into their establishments and working outside the box find that barter/trade is a win/win situation.

Bartering and trading for goods and services has been around forever Justin. It's not a pyramid scheme, period. Let's say a plumber has available time on his schedule. By offering his unfilled time to the members of the exchange, he is then payed in Itex dollars, which are deposited into his account much like a bank. If he needs work done on his truck he can then find an auto repair facility in the membership network and get his truck fixed using his Itex dollars. He just payed to have his truck repaired "using" his available time and labor instead of cash. It's an effective business tool, one that a lot of companies don't truly take advantage of.
