ELKO, Nev. (AP) - John Cahlan, former editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, has been inducted into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame.
Cahlan started in the newspaper business by hawking copies on street corners as a boy.
Born in 1905, he graduated from University of Nevada, Reno. He was editor of the State Journal Register before moving to Las Vegas in 1929 to work on the Las Vegas Review, of which his brother was part owner. When that paper merged with the Las Vegas Journal, he became editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a position he held until 1961.
Cahlan died in 1985. He was posthumously honored Saturday at the Nevada Press Association's annual banquet in Elko.
His brother, Al, and wife, Florence Jones, already are members of the Hall of Fame.
