CA Sex Crimes Suspect Arrested Near Pyramid Lake

SPARKS, NV - A man suspected of sex crimes against a child in Shasta County, California, was arrested Tuesday afternoon near Pyramid Lake.

Sparks police say in late February, detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit received information from an agency in Shasta County that a man wanted might be in the the Reno-Sparks area. Detectives began coordinating with local jurisdictions in an attempt to locate 69-year-old Robert Thomas Smith.

March 4th, about 1:30PM, a detective accompanied by an agent with the U.S. Marshals Service observed the suspect driving in the area of Pyramid Lake. With the assistance of the Pyramid Lake Tribal Police, the suspect was stopped and taken into custody without incident, according to Sparks police. A no-bail warrant was confirmed with the California agency and the suspect was booked into the Washoe County Jail pending extradition to California.

Police say there is no indication that he has committed any crimes in our area.
