RENO, NV - Mike Bosma first met executive coach Shandel Slaten by chance on a plane. Back then, he was an employee. Now, he's the boss of his own company, and he credits Slaten with his success.

"A hundred and ten percent. When we launched Bosma Group four years ago, we had one employee; that was me. We've grown to 16, you know, in a down market." said Bosma, owner of the Bosma Group.

It's just one of Slaten's success stories. She helps business owners work more effectively with their employees, which she says, makes the company more profitable.

"I help them work with their strengths. I think entrepreneurs, they start with really brilliant ideas, and then all of a sudden they have a staff and they think, oh my gosh, what do I do with these people," said Slaten.

One of the main issues she finds in the workplace is communication.

"What I found was, kind of through her leadership, was that, no matter what I say, they hear things differently than what i say, and vice versa, so that really helped me a lot," said Bosma.

"What I help them do is understand their own leadership style, and then get the people around them on the same page with them, and that's what takes it to the next level," said Slaten.

For the skeptics, Bosma says, it really does work.

"Having somebody that helps us along the way, and sees what I refer to as blind spots, and help me recognize where those are, and either navigate them or eliminate them (helps)," said Bosma.

Business coaching can cost anywhere from $100 for a short consultation, to a couple thousand dollars for a large business.
