RENO, Nev. -- Firefighters are going back into the forest in a continued effort to prevent damaging forest fires.
Crews with the North Lake Tahoe and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection Districts along with Washoe County Parks and the Nevada Division of Forestry are tackling hazardous fuels in local forests. The project involves burning piles of brush and smalls trees which were cleared over the past year.
The burns will take place in the Galena and Davis Creeks areas Tuesday, February 5th through Tuesday the 19th, weather permitting. If the winds pick up or if there is too much rain or snow, the burns could be called off.
People living in nearby neighborhoods may see and smell smoke. Officials advice any people who are sensitive to smoke to say inside and keep windows and doors closed until the smoke dissipates.
