SPARKS, Nev. -- The brother of the teacher killed in the Sparks Middle School shooting is speaking out about the tragic event.
Reggie Landsberry told KOLO 8 "He was just a good-hearted person. He'd do anything for anybody."
Math Teacher Michael Landberry was killed during an early Monday morning shooting on the Middle School campus.
Reggie rushed to the school.
"I didn't get a definitive answer until I drove to SMS and I kind of drove through the barricade and told them who I was", Reggie said.
Reggie describes his brother as a man dedicated to helping others. Michael followed in his father's footsteps, joining the Marine Corps. After that, he joined the Nevada National Guard. Reggie says his brother was deployed many times to Afghanistan and the Middle East.
Reggie said, "I guess we don't choose our fate. So to speak. In that aspect, pause, he was just somebody who wanted to do the right thing."
Reggie is remembering back to his brother's middle school years and the fun they had as brothers.
"I was thinking about this today", Reggie said. "My favorite memory was playing Atari when I was 12 years old with my brother. I thought it was so cool there's a video game."
Now, a 12 year old is believed to have taken his brother's life.
"It's so surreal. I don't, I still can't fathom what happened. Cherish every chance you get. Because you don't know when the last one will be."
