HOPE VALLEY, CALIF. - KOLO 8 News Now has been in contact with family of Roderick Clifton, one of two people missing in the Sierra since last Thursday.
His brother-in-law first informed KOLO 8 News Now that the couple Clifton and Paula Lane of Gardnerville had been found right around 8:30pm Wednesday night. At ten o'clock Wednesday, he called our newsroom back to inform us that Roderick did not survive, but Paula is still alive.
Shortly before 11pm Wednesday night Lieutenant Fletcher of the Citrus Heights Police Department told KOLO 8 News Now that the two got stuck in the snow on Burnside Road off of Highway 88. Fletcher says it appears the two tried to walk their way out. Lane was found he says near Highway 88/89. Their vehicle was found in a very remote area with no cell service.
Prior to speaking to Lt. Fletcher around 11pm, this is what KOLO found out:
CHP Sergeant Joe Sherry told KOLO 8 News Now he was notified at 8:30pm Wednesday night that, " A female subject had made contact with somebody at Sorenson's Resort. She had said that they were in a collision. I don't have a name on her."
A Lt. Fletcher of the Citrus Heights Police Department tells us that his agency was called around 8:30pm saying, "We've got some preliminary information that we're following up on from a different agency."
Clifton's brother-in-law informed KOLO 8 News Now the couple was being taken by Careflight to Carson-Tahoe Hospital.
Our ABC affiliate in Sacramento, News10.net, spoke with a friend of Paula Lane's family. She told News10.net that Paula Lane's mother is on her way to Carson-Tahoe Hospital.
